The Unplug

I consider myself to be a bit of a reformed tightwad.  There was a time when I would have told you that “naps are for kids”.  Now, I am more likely to quote Tricia Hersay and the beautiful deprogramming concepts of naps as a form of outright resistance to the large powers that loom over this world (capitalism, segregation, war, hatred, power hierarchies).  I absolutely loved how my thought process was changed after reading Hersay’s book “Rest is Resistance”.   You see….I am an expert sleeper.  I can sleep anywhere at any time.  I thought a nap during the day was potentially (but never for me) a nice reward for a day well worked or the privilege of those who were lucky enough to have completed all their responsibilities.

So, if you are like me, you are always open and aware to concepts that are trying to get your attention….the repetitive things that are telling you to WAKE UP! (or in this case……go to sleep).  Recently, I was listening to a fiction audiobook and the quote below was referenced by Anne Lamott.  I actually giggled out loud at the truth that hit me in this quote.  It is not like I needed permission to love my naps, but all of a sudden there was the proof.  OK, maybe I am not as reformed of a tightwad as I thought (still needing an expert or someone of authority to tell me it is OK to revolt against the norms and nap).

Quote from Anne Lamott about unplugging, and outlet and power coard

I thought sharing with you all the concept of all of us “unplugging” and powering down (imagine us all collapsing or folding over as we lose power) would spark some joy.  If it works for our electronics….it works for us.  When times are tough (or the powers that be are crushing you and your nervous system cannot take it one moment longer)….unplug, rest, nap, luxuriate!

……

Then get back at it! (Tightwad part still here….just in right proportions). 🙂
